On the Road to Cuzamá / Chunkanan Cenotes!

This beautiful Gothic church, whose spire peeks out from between trees as you approach Eknakan on the narrow highway to Chunkanan, is a complete surprise in that it is unlike the usual round-arched churches found in other Yucatecan towns and villages. There is a similar one in the town of X'cunyá, near Dzibilchaltún off the Mérida-Progreso highway. Behind the church, an abandoned hacienda.

  1. Love this church... it looks so Gothic and it's right in the middle of what feels like nowhere.

I believe it is called Eknakan.

  3. Ek is Jaguar? Or star?
    Na - House
    Kan - Serpent or Yellow?

    House of the Yellow Jaguar?

I am just guessing here... can someone help out?
